COVINGTON – With the next school year already approaching, the Newton County School System is preparing for its next set of kindergarteners.
NCSS will hold the yearly Kindergarten Round-Up from May 5 to 8 for upcoming students of the 14 different elementary schools in the county. To be eligible, students must be at least 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014.
Each elementary school has designated a day during the round-up week for kindergarteners to register. Registration dates will be as follows from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. each day:
- May 5 – Middle Ridge, Flint Hill and Porterdale;
- May 6 – East Newton, Rocky Plains and Oak Hill;
- May 7 – Live Oak, Mansfield, South Salem and Fairview; and
- May 8 – Heard-Mixon, Livingston and West Newton.
Registration requires parents to bring their prospective kindergarteners to the round-up so teachers can conduct screenings with the children. Parents must provide the following documents at the time of registration: the child’s social security card, certified birth certificate, immunization record form #3231 along with the hearing, vision and dental screening record form #3300. Hearing and vision screenings will be available at the time of registration should the student not have those records.
Parents must also provide two proofs of residence. One piece of documentation from each of the two following categories are required for registering.
- Category 1: Utility bill with name and address (only garbage, electric, water or gas will be accepted)
- Category 2: Current lease, rental agreement or mortgage statement
If the prospective student does not live with one or both parents, proof of guardianship or custody will be required. Should parents or guardians not be able to register on their home school’s designated date, they may register at one of the other elementary schools per the schedule above.
