Seminoles fall to Gladiators on diamond

Despite a complete game, four-hitter from Rocky Mauriello, the Salem baseball team lost 3-2 to Clarke Central Monday. Mauriello allowed two earned runs and struck out nine, but Salem’s offense, which has scored just 16 runs in the last seven games, continued to sputter.

“Our struggles with runners in scoring position have cost us several wins this year, (Monday) was another example of this. We had several opportunities to get a big lead, and we just didn’t come through,” said Seminoles coach Chad Kitchens. “It is quite frustrating because Rocky threw a gem.”

Salem (6-10, 1-6 Region 8-AAAAA) will get a chance to even the season series with Clarke when the two teams meet in Athens today at 5:55 p.m.
