The Rockdale volleyball team will be the No. 2 seed in the Area 8-AAAAAA Tournament next month, thanks to a recent victory. The Bulldogs defeated South Gwinnett 25-22 and 25-23 to finish area play 6-1, and also knocked off Lumpkin County 25-21 and 25-15 at Walnut Grove High School.
Rockdale (35-8) secured the No. 2 seed for the area tournament, which it will host starting Oct. 10. Norcross will be the top seed by virtue of a 7-0 record that includes a 2-1 victory over Rockdale September 17.
“It was a good win (over South Gwinnett). We wanted that No. 2 seed,” said Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing. “Against Lumpkin County I was able to use some different lineups and experiment a little.”
South Gwinnett, which lost to both Norcross and Rockdale and finished 5-2, will be the No. 3 seed.
Rockdale, trying to extend a school record string of four consecutive seasons in the state playoffs, will finish the regular season with home matches against Drew and George Walton Academy tonight starting at 5 p.m., and Oct. 3 against Ola and Athens Academy.
“These next few matches are about finding out who we can count on in a big spot if I need someone to step up,” Sansing said.
