Wild times at the Monastery

Darla Warnock, a volunteer with Altanta Wild Animal Rescue Effort (AWARE), shows off Windy, a barn owl that was rescued after an injury, during last year’s fall festival sponsored by the Monastery of the Holy Spirit in Conyers. The adult owl could not be completely rehabilitated and therefore cannot be released into the wild and is permanently housed at the organization’s shelter on Klondike Road in Lithonia. AWARE is a tax-exempt nonprofit organization primarily composed of volunteers and will participate again this year at the 3rd Annual Fall Festival and Health Fair on Oct. 5. For more on the festival, see Friday’s Citizen. (Special photo: Lee Depkin)
