CPD and RCSO arrest man in snatching purse at knifepoint in broad daylight

CONYERS — The Conyers Police Department and Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Conyers man last week for allegedly snatching the purse of a 41-year-old woman at knifepoint in broad daylight.

According to CPD Officer Kim Lucas, 18-year-old Dajaun Jnbaptist, of 1492 Tall Oaks Circle, allegedly approached the victim just before noon Thursday as she was walking in front of Bella Vista 2 in the Salem Gate Shopping Center.

“The suspect pulled out a knife and grabbed the purse off the victim,” Lucas said. “He then ran behind the store and into the woodline.”

Since the incident occurred within the city limits but the suspect ran into the unincorporated area of the county, the CPD and RCSO worked in concert to set up a perimeter and search for the suspect, Lucas said.

As a result of interviewing business owners and investigating video surveillance, police were able to identify the suspect as Jnbaptist who resided in the Tall Oaks Apartment Complex, just behind the shopping center.

He was arrested around 6:40 p.m. and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and battery. The victim was not injured.
