“Shame on the Citizen newspapers for ending anonymous commenting. You will put a damper on comments from those who want to keep our names out of the spotlight for many reasons, job security being a key reason. I hope you will reconsider, if not, look for a serious reduction in comments to your newspapers.”

“The Old Man usually turns the sound down when commercials are on and either goes to the bathroom or the refrigerator. Sometimes I watch them with the sound off and try to figure out what they are selling. The other day I decided to watch and listen to them. First we had a camel walking through an office talking and no one is paying attention. Finally someone answers him and he goes on to a couple guys on a stage playing a couple of stringed instruments. I guess they were selling insurance. Next I saw a man wanting to juggle running chain saws with a professional juggler. I think that was an insurance commercial. Next I saw a couple of young parents who had a baby that looked about 6 months old. That baby was doing things most grown ups couldn’t do. Playing instruments, turning cartwheels and all sorts of stuff. The parents were all excited but they didn’t even notice the baby. It was the cola they just bought. The next one is the old farmer who was supposed to spell cow. He said cow-ei-ei-o. Wrong. I think this was an insurance ad. I guess there were two parts to that one. Of course there is the guy all covered with money. Don’t quite understand where they get these ad writers, but I am old so I guess the younger generation understands them. When I was younger I heard an ad and watched an ad that said in essence, if you don’t use our deodorant you will stink. I quit using it immediately. Don’t like to be intimidated.”

“Why Not Try Here.”

“I just wanted to comment on the deplorable situation of our roads in Newton County. Those of us who have lived in the county all our lives and have paid taxes all of our lives … and ride on these crumbling roads. Most specifically I wanted to comment on closing Sockwell Road and Almon for almost nine months to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on replacing the bridge. That was first and foremost for safety, but everyone that lives around there was inconvenienced for nine months having to go the long way around. Only to have it open and to joyfully head towards going across a brand spanking new bridge on the crumbly roads leading up to it and away from it. And it just looks like to me like it was just the perfect opportunity for the county to pave at least that little section that is crumbled. I just can’t conceive of someone not having that idea. So, if anyone else feels the same, call and comment on the road systems in Newton County.”
