RCSO arrests Oxford man along with 2 others on multiple drug charges

CONYERS — An Oxford man and two Conyers men were arrested on multiple drug charges after a routine traffic stop in Rockdale County that resulted in a handgun being tossed out a window and one man being Tasered.

Sometime after 8 p.m. Saturday, Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Stephens pulled over a black car on Ga. Highway 138 near Chimney Ridge for driving without headlights.

When he began checking the names and licenses of the three men in the car, Stephens noticed that one of the passengers, Joshua Lee Braswell, was acting nervous. The deputy learned that Braswell had an active warrant, so he and Deputy Tim Epperson, who had arrived for backup, attempted to arrest him.

“At this point, (Braswell) pulled away from Deputy Epperson and started running east on Ga. 138,” Stephens wrote in the incident report.

After a brief foot chase, Stephens struck Braswell with his Taser, which gave the deputy the opportunity to catch him and place him in handcuffs.

“As I was placing Braswell in my patrol car, he stated that there was dope in the car and he started stuffing bags and I pulled them over,” Stephens reported.

When the deputy advised the other two men in the car that he was going to search the vehicle, Steven Myles Logue, the driver, reportedly told the deputy to “go ahead” and the front-seat passenger, Kerry Michael Kane, reportedly advised that there were scales on the front floor board. Kane also told the deputies that he had tossed a gun out the passenger window while they were chasing Braswell, according to the report.

In all, deputies found a syringe, scales, a gun holster, a small amount of marijuana, 202 pills and three bags and a plastic container with methamphetamine packaged for sale.

Investigators searching the area also located a 9mm handgun about 10 or 15 feet off the roadway near the site of the original traffic stop, according to RCSO Investigator Michael Camp.

The three men were arrested and charged with the following offenses:

• Logue, 25, 408 Saint Regis Drive, Oxford, was charged with giving a false name or address; possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute; possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance; a firearm used by a convicted felon during a crime; reckless conduct; possession of marijuana; two counts of possession of a controlled substance; receipt, possession or transfer of a firearm; driving without headlights at night; and operation of an unregistered vehicle.

• Kane, 32, 1905 Poplar St., Conyers, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute; possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance; a firearm used by a convicted felon during a crime; reckless conduct; possession of marijuana; and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.

• Braswell, 45, 168 Old Mill Way, Conyers, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer; failure to maintain lane; possession and use of drug-related objects; giving false name or address; willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer; two counts of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute; possession of marijuana; and two counts of possession of a controlled substance.
