No. 10 Bulldogs cruise past Meadowcreek, Shiloh

The Rockdale volleyball team celebrated its new state ranking with a pair of home victories Tuesday. Abby Bradford had 13 kills and University of Georgia commitment Majesti Bass added 10 as the Bulldogs won 2-0 against Meadowcreek and Shiloh.

Rockdale, which moved to 20-5 overall and 4-0 in Area 8-AAAAAA, is No. 10 in this week’s gasports.com Class AAAAAA poll.

Against Meadowcreek, Rockdale won both games 25-14, including jumping out to a 23-4 lead in game two.

“It took us a second to adjust to Meadowcreek’s style, which was different. They pushed the ball to corners and a lot of tips and things like that,” said Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing. “Once we kind of adjusted to that we pretty much did pretty good.”

In the last match of the night, Rockdale rolled to 25-10 and 25-9 victories against Shiloh, picking up 20 aces, which tied a season-high for a single match. In the four games, Nazzerine Waldon and Jahkishma Soto added eight kills and Natheree Lackey had 25 assists.

“The starting lineup played exceptionally well,” Sansing said. “We hit the ball well, we served well and passed the ball well. Hopefully it’ll help make us better.”

Rockdale will play in the Collins Hill Classic Thursday with pool play beginning at 4:00 p.m. against Parkview.

YACS off to 1-1 start

The Young Americans Christian School football team has seen the good and bad in the early stages of the 2013 season. YACS started the year with a 35-0 victory over Horizon Christian on opening night as senior James Heft led the Eagles with over 200 yards of offense.

“We have a lot of young players that really adapted to the speed of the game,” said YACS coach Chuck McCullough. “First week showed how unprepared we were, however, (week two) we came ready to play and it paid off.”

Despite another strong effort from Heft, YACS lost to Calvary Christian 47-14 last weekend to fall to 1-1.

“Our guys fell behind early but really rallied to play a good second half,” McCullough said.

The Eagles travel to McDonough Friday to play New Creation Christian Academy.
