CONYERS — The Rockdale County School System was the only school system in the state to have 100 percent participation in the Clean Air Schools program and this year the school system is planning to continue educating students, their parents and the community about the importance of air quality.
Katy King is a visual arts teacher and the Clean Air Campaign sponsor for Davis Middle School. Over the summer, she and Catherine Bowers, STEM instructor for Honey Creek Elementary School, participated in a teacher focus group at the Georgia Clean Air Campaign headquarters.
“They have many new exciting programs to offer to the schools this year to get more schools throughout the state on board with the program. Also they will have a more teacher-friendly website to find lesson plans and to find out what is new with the program,” said King, who will spearhead this year’s Davis Middle School Clean Air Initiative along with science teacher Terra Brown. “They also talked about having a multi-tiered program for the schools so they can decide how involved they want to be in the program. The art contest and the Young Lungs at Work campaign will still be included in this year’s program. I am excited we have 100 percent of the schools in Rockdale participating, this is of vital importance to all of us.”
