Rockdale County Sheriff's Office deputies arrest one and search for second suspect in Salem Road carjacking

Second suspect on the lam

CONYERS — One man has been arrested and another is on the run after allegedly robbing two victims at gunpoint and stealing a car in the early morning hours Tuesday.

Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the Salem Chase Apartments around 2 a.m. in response to a call that two suspicious people were walking around the parking lot. By the time they arrived, the two victims had been robbed.

The two men — one of whom was identified as 22-year-old Marshall Martin Graham, 22, of 5637 Bradley Circle in Lithonia — allegedly pulled handguns on a 53-year-old woman and her 24-year-old son. The men stole a wallet from the male victim and a Pontiac Aztec SUV from the female, said Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Michael Camp.

A lookout for the vehicle was issued. Deputy Nathan Watts spotted the Aztec traveling westbound on Interstate 20 near Sigman Road and pursued the fleeing vehicle into DeKalb County, where the SUV pulled into a BP gas station located at Turner Hill Road and Old Covington Highway, according to the press release from the RCSO.

The suspects began to run from the vehicle, but Watts was able to apprehend Graham as he exited the passenger’s side. The deputy also located a handgun on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The driver fled into the woods.

“A perimeter was set up and K9 units were deployed in the area, but the second suspect was able to get away,” the press release states.

Graham was arrested and charged with armed robbery, but more charges are likely, the RCSO stated.

“I want to commend Deputy Watts and the other responding deputies for their quick response and apprehension of one suspect,” said Sheriff Eric Levett. “While we are glad to have the one suspect in the Rockdale County Jail, we will not be satisfied until the second suspect is behind bars as well. Now, our attention is going to focus on apprehending the second suspect.”

The second suspect is described as a black male wearing a red bandana over his face and armed with a handgun.
