The Heritage cross country team did it again.
The Patriots won the New/Rock cross country championship for the 15th time in 16 seasons last weekend at Sims Elementary School, thanks in large part to the girls’ first-place finish.
Led by Alexia Wilson, who was runner-up at 23:08, the Patriots had five top-10 finishes, including Ferree Buck (third, 23:39); Sophie Moll (seventh, 25:03); Emily Taylor (eighth, 25:04) and Erin Carter (10th, 25:39).
Rockdale’s Antwonette Thomas won the girl’s race by a comfortable margin, finishing more than a minute ahead of Wilson at 21:54. The Bulldogs also got a fourth-place finish from Kyandi Lattimer (24:53).
The Newton girls finished second as Maiya Newton was fifth at 25:00, Riara Santos placed sixth (25:01) and Desire’ Griffin placed ninth at 25:29.
Dax Willette continued his impressive freshman campaign in helping Rockdale dominate the boy’s race and getting the Bulldogs a runner-up overall finish. Willette won with a time of 17:37, and Logan Hull was second (18:20), Jonathan Butler, third (18:35) and Sulaimane Bangura, fifth (18:54).
The Heritage boy’s finished second, thanks to a trio of runners who finished sixth (T.J. Wilson, 19:00), seventh (Darryl Bowie, 19:11) and eighth (San Marteen Rozier, 19:16). Kameron Wallace was the fourth-best boy’s runner at 18:43, while Randolph Barratt placed ninth (19:36), helping the Newton boy’s place third and Newton to a third-place finish overall.
Eastside’s top runners were Landon Moore (20:30) and Taylor Jones (25:50), who each finished 13th in the boy’s and girl’s race, respectively, helping the Eagles to a fourth-place overall finish.
Marquis Alexis finished 25th at 22:33 for the Salem boys.
