5K race to benefit Honor Flight

CONYERS — Honor Flight Conyers will host its second annual Honor Run 5K on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. The mission of the Honor Flight is to fly America’s veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit those memorials dedicated to honor their sacrifices. Top priority is given to America’s most senior veterans, such as survivors of World War II and any veterans with a terminal illness.

Organizer Erika Sellers said funds raised will help pay for flights to Washington, D.C.

“I’ll be happy with anything, but right now we’re looking for maybe $2,000 or $2,500,” she said.

The race runs in and around Black Shoals Park, a well-marked, supervised course. The Veterans War Memorial Park is located inside Black Shoals Park at 3001 Black Shoals Road, Conyers, GA 30012. The race will start at 3 p.m., but runners can begin picking up packets at 1:30 p.m. There will be water provided to runners throughout the course. Pre-registration is $20 and must be postmarked by Nov. 1. Registration after that date and through race day is $25. T-shirts are guaranteed only for those that register by Nov. 1.

Volunteers are needed to help pass out water to runners and be race course monitors. There are also several levels of sponsorships for companies that are willing to donate. Sponsorships start at $50 and companies’ names will go on the T-shirts runners will be wearing during the race.
