CONYERS — State Rep. Dee Dawkins-Haigler, D-Lithonia, in partnership with the East Suburban Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America Inc. and Delta Sigma Theta sorority, will sponsor the third annual Youth Town Hall Meeting to give area young people an opportunity to meet elected officials.
The event is set for Tuesday, Oct. 29, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at the Rockdale Career Academy auditorium. Students in grades five through 12 are invited to attend.
Invited to take part in the event are state Rep. Tonya Anderson, D-Lithonia; Rep. Pam Stephenson, D-Decatur; Sen. Ron Ramsey, D-Decatur; Randal S. Mills, mayor of Conyers; Cleveland Stroud, Conyers City Council member; Richard Oden, chairman of the Rockdale County Board of Commissioners; Oz Nesbitt Sr., Post 1 Rockdale commissioner; JaNice Van Ness, Post 2 Rockdale commissioner; Eric Levett, Rockdale County sheriff; and Katrina Young, Rockdale Board of Education member.
Young people attending the event will have an opportunity to voice their opinions and learn about the political process.
Jack and Jill of America Inc. is an organization dedicated to creating mediums of contact for children that stimulate growth and development and provide children constructive educational, cultural, civic, health, recreational and social programs. Its goal is to promote community awareness and sponsor community service initiatives that address the needs for children and adults.
