Covington First United Methodist will host Change the World Day on Oct. 26.
The event provides a venue for organizations, services and churches to come together to bring awareness to what Newton County has to offer its citizens, to give assistance to those in need, to work together on community service projects and to provide a free, fun-filled day for families.
The day starts at 8 a.m. with the Steeple Chase 5K, 1-Mile Fun Run and Quarter Mile to raise money for special needs in Newton County.
From noon to 3 p.m. on the front lawn of the church and the lot across the street, the church will host a festival featuring games, face painting and a petting zoo. There will also be live music, food, booths sponsored by churches and service groups, art displays and several interactive events.
The Gifts of Grace Expo will also operate from noon to 3 p.m. Golden Razor Beauty College will provide haircuts, modified manicures and pedicures and giveaways. There will be health screening which include eye screenings, blood pressure checks and glucose checks.
Flu shots will be offered but are not free. Insurance including Medicare, Medicaid and PeachCare are accepted for the flu shots. Food bags, health kits, coats, sweaters, blankets and socks will also be available for those in need of these items.
Community Service projects for the day include working at Chimney Park. Work begins at 10 a.m. Bring work gloves and ladders. A community playground build out will also be going on at the Miracle League all day.
