Rockdale County native named warden

Commissioner Brian Owens announced the reassignment of Sheila Oubre as warden of Burruss Correctional Training Center effective today. The facility is located in Forsyth. As warden, Oubre will be responsible for overseeing 214 staff members and 808 medium security male inmates.

“Warden Oubre brings a wealth of knowledge to Burruss Correctional Training Center,” said Commissioner Brian Owens, in a press release. “We are confident her experience will benefit the staff and inmates.”

Oubre joined the Department in 1994 as a correctional officer at Metro State Prison. During her career with the department, she served as sergeant, lieutenant, unit manager, superintendent and deputy warden of security at various facilities.

In 2009, she was promoted to warden at Phillips State Prison and in 2010 served as warden of Dooly State Prison. In 2011, she was reassigned to warden of Baldwin State Prison where she most recently served.

Prior to joining the department, she served in the U.S. Army’s Military Police for 10 years. Oubre graduated from Kaplan University with a degree in criminal justice.
