Willette finishes Golden Eagle Invitational in top 10

COVINGTON — Rockdale’s Dax Willette was the only local runner with a top-10 finish in the cross country Golden Eagle Invitational at Nash Farms Battlefield in Hampton on Saturday.

Willette ran the 5,000-meter course in 17 minutes, 15.49 seconds with teammate Jonathan Butler coming in at 18:31.32 as the only two boys for Rockdale.

Newton came in 12th overall in team standings out of 16 teams with 301 points followed by Eastside who came in 13th with 363 points in the boys event.

North Oconee won the team meet with 35 points followed by McIntosh (61) and Archer (103). Winning the individual low-medalist was Kell’s Logan Poteet with a time of 16:14.54.

Scoring points for Newton were Kameron Wallace who had a 22nd-place finish in 18:20.09 followed by Randolph Barratt (56-19:52.03), Cameron Clark (59-20:03.28), Malik Franklin (75-20:44.70) and Josh Suber (89-21:44.18).

Eastside’s top five runners on Landon Moore (60-20:05.92), Patrick Dogherty (62-20:07.04), Jacob Alwes (69-20:33.89) Devin Herring (84-21:29.02) and Matthew Bass (88-21:38.74).

Both Newton and Eastside team’s finished in the bottom half of the girls meet with Rockdale not having a team score with only four runners.

Rockdale’s Antwontte Thomas was the top local girl to cross the finish line doing so in 22:27.74 for 25th place.

Newton, who came in 12th overall with 343 points, had the next two fastest girls with Maiya Newton coming in 59th in 25:43.04 followed by Riara Santos finishing 60th with a time of 25:46.05. The other Newton girls were Brianna Hayden (73-29:05.40), Desire’ Griffin (74-29:05.75) and Ashley Jean-Baptiste (77-30:44.60).

Eastside came in behind Newton with 373 points to come in 13th place.

Scoring for Eastside were Taylor Jones (68-26:48.51), Alexandra Chandler (70-27:20.57), Jones Madison (75-30:40.51), Sarah Dial (79-31:50.73) and Taylor Crawford (81-33:35.53).

Westminster was the top girls team with 23 points as they had all five runners come in the top 10 spots. Winning the individual spot with a time of 20:09.62 was Charlotte Folinus with Margaret Maxwell coming in second with a time of 20:27.76.

Also running for Rockdale were Elizabeth Lowe (79-27:22.32), Kyandi Lattimer (81-28:08.41) and Jada Jackson (99-36:31.69).
