Eastside, Alcovy head to softball state playoffs

Eastside soars past Lumpkin County in battle for No. 3 seed

Eastside scored six runs in the sixth to cruise to an easy 8-0 take the No. 3 seed in the Region 8-AAAA tournament against Lumpkin County on Thursday.

The Lady Eagles got the only run they needed in the top of the second inning when Molly Moon, after hitting a triple, crossed the plate on a Hayle Yates single. Moon made it 2-0 scoring on a Taz Powell double.

In the sixth inning following two runs scoring on an error, Madison McCrorey cleared the plates to put the Lady Eagles up 7-0. Their final run came on an Alexis Dubucio sacrifice fly.

Caitlin Ray got the win in the circle throwing a complete six innings allowing three hits and two walks while striking out seven batters.

McCrorey led the Lady Eagles with three RBIs while Moon was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. The Lady Eagles finished the game with 10 hits.

Eastside will start the Class AAAA playoffs in a doubleheader in the best of three series against Redan on Wednesday.

Two-out hit lefts Alcovy over Luella for region championship

COVINGTON — A late inning rally helped Alcovy come from behind for a 4-3 win to take the Region 2-AAAAAA tournament.

The Lady Tigers trailed Luella as they headed into the bottom of the seventh inning down 4-2. With two outs, Neisha Morris ripped a two-out single to drive in two runs giving Alcovy the region championship.

Alcovy will host the first round of the Class AAAAAA tournament on Wednesday.
