Newton native Bobbie Oliver to perform stand-up in Porterdale

Covington native turned Los Angeles stand-up comedian Bobbie Oliver will perform Thursday at 8 p.m. at Jimbo’s on the Mill in Porterdale. Her performance comes on the heels of her releasing her new book, “The Tao of Comedy: Embrace the Pause.” Bobbie Oliver (Barbara “Bobbie” Evans) is a 25-year veteran comic who graduated from Newton County High School in 1986. She is the daughter of Covington natives Jerry Evans and the late Jeanne Alexander Evans. Oliver just opened Tao Comedy Studio in Los Angeles, which is the new home to her 10-year-old stand-up comedy school, and was just named one of the “best comics in America” by the New York Post for the second year in a row.
