Tyler Austin got his first stint in the Arizona Fall League off to a fast start Tuesday.
Austin, a New York Yankees farmhand who is playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions, went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in the Scorpions’ 6-5 victory over the Salt River Rafters in the fall league opener.
The 22-year old Heritage graduate, coming off his fourth season in the Yankees’ organization, batted seventh and played first base, an unfamiliar position. Scottsdale played Salt River again Wednesday night and Austin and his new teammates, which include fellow Yankees’ farmhands Vidal Nuno, Mason Williams, Peter O’Brien, Brett Gerritse, Fred Lewis and James Pazos, will play a 31-game schedule that wraps up Nov. 14.
