Relay pageant seeks contestants

COVINGTON — It’s that time of year again. The Miss Sweetheart Relay 2014 Pageant is accepting applications. The natural look pageant takes place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20 at Eastside High School, located at 10245 Eagle Drive in Covington.

All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society’s Newton County Relay for Life. Pageant director and cancer survivor Beth Bradley said last year’s pageant raised more than $3,000.

There are several ways to support this fundraiser. One is to enter your child in the pageant. Entry fees are $60 and can be mailed to B. Bradley at 1120 Knights Drive, Rutledge, GA 30663. There are nine categories for girls age birth to 24. Residency in Newton County is not required to enter.

Each contestant will be judged in gown only. The gown should be age appropriate for the division.

A Miss Spirit Relay award will be presented to the contestant that raises the most money to be donated to Relay for Life. All those participating in the Spirit fundraiser will receive a special prize. A portion of proceeds from picture packages of contestants that are sold will also benefit Relay.

Even if you don’t have a contestant in the pageant, you can still contribute. Contestants will sell ads for pageant programs to raise money. Ads range from $25 to $100. For more information about ads or the pageant, call 770-377-9244 or email bbtaz@mindspring.com. Another option to support the fundraiser is to simply pay the $5 admission fee and come and enjoy the pageant. Students get in for $2 and children age 5 and under are admitted free.
