COVINGTON — The driver in a one-vehicle wreck that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old Covington woman in September has been arrested.
Steven Anthony Aguilar, 22, of 30 Windridge Drive in Covington, was arrested on Sept. 25 and charged with homicide by vehicle, open container violation, improper lane usage, limited license violation, reckless driving, DUI and no seat belts.
According to Gordy Wright with the Georgia State Patrol, troopers were called to the accident near the intersection of Flat Shoals Road and Ga. Highway 36 around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21. Wright said that Aguilar was traveling eastbound on Flat Shoals Road approaching Ga. 36 when the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving left the roadway on the right side. Aguilar apparently overcorrected, which resulted in the truck traveling back onto the roadway, crossing the westbound land and north shoulder and hitting a tree with the front passenger side.
Both Aguilar and his passenger, Ceclia Gonzales, were ejected from the vehicle. Aguilar was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Gonzales was transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where she died shortly after arrival, according to Wright.
