COVINGTON — As a way to say thank you, the Oaks Course will hold a drawing for free green fees for life to one lucky player on Saturday.

“We started taking everyone’s information in October,” Oaks Course head golf professional Lisa Vaught said. We’ll throw the names in a basket, pick a winner and they’ll win green fees for life.”

There have been more than 500 names registered so far and players may register until noon, the time of the drawing.

Registration forms are given with each round before the time of the drawing.

Croone continues to shine for Paladins

GREENVILLE, S.C. — Former Newton basketball player Stephen Croone continues to make his presence known as he’s becoming a beacon of hope for Furman.

Croone, a sophomore, led the team with 27 points in their 75-54 loss to Virginia Tech on Tuesday. He was almost perfect going 10-for-11 from the free-throw line while getting seven rebounds and four assists.

For the season, Croone has accounted for 35 percent of the Furman’s (2-3) total 319 points scoring 111 of them. His miss from the line against Virginia Tech as he is 27-for-28 in his past five games.
