Williams shines for Crimson Tide

Alabama has bounced back from a rough start with consecutive victories, and Ashley Williams is a big reason why. Williams, in her freshman season at Alabama after graduating from Alcovy, had the best stretch of her young career recently.

Williams had career highs in points (18) and rebounds (8) in leading the Crimson Tide to a 70-62 victory over Wisconsin November 21, then followed that with her third double-digit scoring effort in a 10-point, six-rebound effort in a blow out win over Alabama A&M Monday.

Williams, a 6-0 forward, is averaging 8.8 points (third-best on the team) and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 53 percent (14-of-26) from the field in five games off the bench.

Alabama, which started 0-3 before putting together the current winning streak, heads to Moraga, California this weekend for the Hilton Concord Thanksgiving Classic. The Crimson Tide play St. Marys Friday at 7:00 p.m., then battle Cal State Fullerton Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

News and notes

Sunderhaus, a redshirt-sophomore forward, is averaging 9.8 points and five rebounds and shooting a team-best 54 percent (20-for-37) from the field in five games (two starts) for the Redhawks. Seattle (3-2) visits Eastern Washington Friday at 9:05 p.m……Sunderhaus’ former teammate, Bernard Thompson has missed the last two games for Florida Gulf Coast while resting an ankle injury and it wasn’t known at press time whether Thompson would play in Tuesday night’s game at N.C. State. The former Bulldog and junior at the Fort Myers, Florida school, is third on the team in points (13 per game) and is also handing out three assists per game for the 4-1 Eagles.
