Heading into last weekend’s meet in Cobb County, the swim teams at Rockdale had a goal of finishing in the top five. The Bulldogs accomplished that goal and a whole lot more.
Rockdale finished tied for fifth with Winder-Barrow in the team standings, qualified a relay team for the state meet and Davis Foster won the boy’s 50-freestyle at the Greyhound Invitational. Foster, who swam in 22.88 in the 50-freestyle, was joined by Patrick Sanders, Damani Young and Matthew Bennett on the state-qualifying 400-freestyle relay team, which finished second to Winder-Barrow at 3:36.35.
Foster, Sanders, Young and Bennett also placed third in the 200-medley relay (1:53.80); the quartet of Billye Lewis, Jasheil Chupuico, KeMaya Tucker and Sydney Norton finished third in the 400-freestyle relay (4:16.43), fifth in the 200-freestyle relay (1:54.60) and sixth in the 200-medley relay (2:10.50).
Foster finished a strong day with a third-place finish in the 100-freestyle (50.53), while Young was sixth in the 100-butterfly (1:05.67); Bennett finished seventh in the 50-freestyle (24.50) and ninth in the 100-freestyle (54.47); Tucker placed seventh in the 100-butterfly (1:09.23); Lewis was eighth in the 100-freestyle (1:03.09) and Norton swam in 2:36.22 to place 10th in the 200-freestyle.
Heritage finished tenth as a team, thanks to four top-ten finishes.
The boy’s 200-medley relay team of Jake Diaz, Reggie Murray, Austin Willis and Cody Nolen finished ninth at 2:03.42 to lead the way for the Patriots.
That group also placed 10th in the 200-freestyle relay (1:45.98), while Alex Jones was 10th in the 100-backstroke at 1:12.33 and Josie Crane was 10th in the 50-freestyle (28.64).
