NCSO seeks information in weekend shooting of 16-year-old

COVINGTON — Newton County investigators continue to seek information about the shooting of a 16-year-old this weekend.

Deputies were called to the pool area on Gross Lake Parkway around 9:30 p.m. Saturday where they found the juvenile lying on the ground. It appeared he had been shot twice – in the lower back and the left leg, said Newton County Sheriff’s Office Investigator Michael Cunningham.

The boy was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment and the investigation is ongoing, Cunningham said.

“We are seeking assistance from the public and anyone with any information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 678-625-1400,” he said.

In other news, a husband and wife who were arguing have both been arrested. Cunningham said deputies were called to a home at 340 Fieldstone Lane in reference to a domestic dispute.

“Upon further investigation, it appeared to be a mutual combat situation,” Cunningham said.

The husband, 33-year-old Cory Sheldon John, was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly pointing a 12-gauge shotgun at his wife.

His wife, Tanya Shalice John, 40, was charged with battery and interfering with a 911 call.
