CONYERS — For the next several weekends the Georgia State Patrol will be out in force collecting toys to be given at Christmas to less fortunate children.
Once again, the GSP is teaming up to participate in the annual U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots campaign. Members of the State Patrol will be stationed at Walmart stores in Rockdale, Newton and Walton counties beginning Saturday, where they will ask for donations of new, unwrapped gifts that will be distributed to local children.
Cpl. Jeremiah Slayton said monetary donations will be accepted too, but the main goal is to collect toys.
“We want to make people in the area aware that we will be out there collecting toys,” he said. “The Georgia State Patrol is invested in providing for the less fortunate families in our area.”
Cpl. Richard Thacker said the toys collected will be provided to children in the area where they were donated.
In other words, he said, toys collected at the Newton County Walmart will be donated to children in Newton County; items collected at the Walmart in Rockdale County will be given to children there.
The GSP will be at the following Walmart locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. collecting toys:
• Nov. 23 and 24 — Covington Walmart
• Nov. 30 – Conyers Walmart
• Dec. 7 – Monroe Walmart
• Dec. 8 — Covington Walmart
• Dec. 14 — Conyers Walmart
• Dec. 15 — Monroe Walmart
