CONYERS — High schools in Rockdale and Newton counties are preparing for a number of theatrical performances. From their own versions of Disney films to spontaneous and witty improv, the two school systems will have no shortage of entertainment in the next few weeks.
Eastside High School in Covington has two major performances coming up. The Second Annual Art & Improv show will be presented on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. Audience members can expect excellent music, intriguing art displays and a few laughs from improv scenes. Tickets are $5 per person, but bringing a canned food donation can get theater-goers $1 off the admission price.
Along with the Art & Improv show, Eastside will present its play version of Disney’s “High School Musical.” The music and theater departments have been working on this performance since the second week of this school year, and the excitement is building as opening night draws nearer.
“The show really lends itself to the true audience, which are high-schoolers,” said Musical Director Joel Singleton.
Play dates and times are Nov. 21-23 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7 each.
Heritage High School’s Patriot Players are scheduled to perform the “The Little Mermaid Jr.,” a spin-off of the animated Disney film. Doing a play adaptation of an animated movie can be difficult, but the live performance can be just as delightful. The film’s wide array of characters and nautical context should make for some striking costumes and captivating sets. Play dates and times are Nov. 14-16 and 21-23 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 17 and 24 at 2:30 p.m.
“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!” will be presented on Friday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. at Salem High School. The one-night-only performance will give audience members an early start on the holiday spirit. Tickets are $5 for students and $7 for adults.
