This little kitten may be tiny now, but he has a full-sized personality. Peter is a domestic longhair and is about 10 weeks old. He is very playful and is ready to find a home where he can be loved. Peter can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal. (Special photo)

The family resemblance is clear with these two brothers. Milo and Otis are domestic shorthair kittens who were found as strays. They are about four months old and will grow to be close to 15 pounds as adults. They are trained for the litter box and are up-to-date on their shots. They are both sweet and laid back. Milo and Otis would love to be adopted together but would be happy even if they found separate homes. Milo and Otis can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 770-278-8403. (Special photo)

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

• Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

• Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

• Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

• Which pet is right for my home and my family?
