The Rockdale volleyball team had another memorable season and Majesti Bass and Abby Bradford were two huge reasons why. Bass and Bradford were rewarded for their contributions recently as Bass was named to the Class AAAAAA all-state team and Bradford was chosen to play in the senior all-star game.
Bass, a junior who Rockdale coach Stephen Sansing said is “pretty firm” in her verbal commitment to the University of Georgia, was one of 12 players selected to the all-state team, which was announced last Saturday.
Bradford was one of 40 seniors selected from the entire state for the all-star game, which was played Saturday at Woodward Academy in College Park.
“I’m just real proud of them, it just shows the hard work and the effort they put in gets recognized,” said Sansing. “Just from where (Bradford) was when she started to now, she’s just been a phenomenal player and just a great teammate and a great leader by example on the court. Looking for (Bass) to keep improving and we’re still going to have a lot of returners for next year even though we’re losing some seniors.”
Bass, who was named the Area 8-AAAAAA player of the year, is the second Rockdale player to be named to an all-state team. Lauren Aikens was selected to the Class AAAA team in 2010.
Rockdale was area runner-up and reached the state playoffs for a program-record fourth consecutive season. The Bulldogs were eliminated in the first round by Lassiter.
