RCSO, U.S. Marshals track down fugitive at local restaurant

CONYERS — A Jasper County man on the run in connection with a robbery in Texas was found this week eating at a local Mexican restaurant.

Just after 9 p.m. Wednesday, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the U.S. Marshals Service to assist in the arrest of a man wanted out of Austin, Texas, on a charge of aggravated robbery, according to a press release from the RCSO.

The U.S. Marshals Service had been attempting to locate the suspect, 19-year-old Austin Waters Jansen of 8801 Post Road in Shady Dale, and was able to find him Wednesday night at the Honey Creek Village shopping center eating at the Los Charros restaurant.

Jansen was taken into custody by marshals and RCSO deputies and was transported to the Rockdale County Jail, where he is being held as a fugitive from justice. He is awaiting extradition to Austin to face a warrant issued in October charging him with aggravated robbery, according to the press release.

“Our partnership with the U.S. Marshals Service continues to get dangerous criminals off the streets of Rockdale County,” said Sheriff Eric Levett. “This arrest shows that no matter where criminals commit their crimes, the U.S. Marshals Service and Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office will track you down and send you to jail.”
