"Sheriff Brown, can you please explain to me why the banquet hall at the intersection of Jack Neely Road and Kirkland Road continues to be such a problem? It seems that at least every other weekend there are loud parties/events held at this location. Fights, loud yelling, drug use and cars parked up and down the streets are just a few of the problems which arise from this location. My major concern is that when these events get out of hand, large numbers of deputies respond to the scene and stay there for hours at a time. Who is protecting the citizens of Newton County while this is going on? On 05/24/13 over 10 deputies were there. I see a problem here Sheriff Brown!"
"We have an out of control school board being bullied and pushed along by Eddie Johnson and to a lesser degree Almond Turner. At least Turner seems to have a bit of polish and education, neither of which Johnson has ever encountered. Daily 'extreme fights' on the bus? How much has to happen before a 'student' is expelled? Either let the school system take care of that person or the legal system, but one or the other will do the job. I am sick and tired of taxpayers having to foot the bill for students who will not try, will not conform, will not behave, will not study and who have never tried to learn anything except how to survive on the street. When Jeff Meadors was passed over for chairman of the board in January, we should have known this was all going to happen. Shame on this board and shame on the people for electing board members who have no clue how to run a good school system."
"I would like to make a suggestion to the commissioners of Newton County -- give the police an ordinance so they can write people that have bags of garbage on the hoods and trunks of their cars a $150 ticket. It should also be stated in the ordinance that anyone with garbage in the back of a pickup should have it tarped down or pay a $100 fine. There are people that see the bags of garbage like the one that's been laying on Salem Road, Hwy. 162, for two weeks and decide not to move to Newton County. These are the kind of people that pay taxes and create opportunity for other citizens as well as people in elected positions."
Editor's Note: Newton County is not responsible for maintaining Hwy. 162 and Salem Road, as these are state highways.
"Would the Newton Board of Education explain whether or not it is true that one board member's relative was approved for a new job in May and yet another relative/family member of the same board member is strongly considered the top person for another job in the system for June even over individuals with more relevant experience? Just dispel the rumors. True or not true? We pay the school taxes so we do deserve to know if this is going on."
"There are a great number of Americans in this country who scare me. Surveys have shown the majority of American voters polled are not concerned that four Americans were slaughtered in Benghazi. They are more concerned over the AP and IRS scandals. What has happened to rational thinking? I know if any of these men had been members of their families, they would have cared and demanded the truth! We need to pray for this country, because it is definitely headed in the wrong direction with this president and all of his puppets. It does not bother any of them to lie and try and mislead the American public. Things have got to change and soon!"
