Shaggy, Benji seek new homes

Benji has already gone through the puppy stage and is ready to find a new home. He plans on greeting everyone with the same big smile on his face he's showing here and hopes that will do the trick. He's 2 years old and a Beagle that would make Snoopy proud. He's had his shots and all he needs now is a lot of love. He can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 770-278-8403.

This pudgy pup has been named Shaggy. He's only a 9-week-old baby who is very sweet and would love a new home where he can become part of the family. He's believed to be a Husky/terrier-mix and will weigh about 40 pounds when he is fully grown. He's up-to-date on all shots and worming and is ready to find his place in the world. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

-- Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

-- Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

-- Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

-- Which pet is right for my home and my family?
