The Conyers Rockdale Heritage Foundation presented its inaugural Rockdale Heritage Gala fundraiser on May 18 at East Mountain Studios in Conyers. Proceeds from the event will benefit a scholarship fund for local college-bound high school students.

Several of those community members attending the event earned awards including: Conyers City Councilman Cleveland Stroud -- CR Heritage Leadership Award; Rockdale County Commissioner JaNice VanNess -- Cleveland Stroud Leadership Award; Jeff Wigington -- Lifetime Achievement Award; Julie Mills -- CR Heritage Community Service Award; Rockdale County School Superintendent Richard Autry -- Soaring Eagle Education Award; Guillermo Bravo -- Trailblazer Business Award; and Willie Gibson -- Freedom Award.

Nearly 200 guests attended the event, which included food and entertainment from Dominy School of the Performing Arts, the Alzo Youth Theatre, the Appalachian Art Barn, Bahiyah African Dance Company, and Swagger Crew Fit Kidz.
