Man gets one day of freedom before going back to jail

CONYERS -- One day out of prison was all it took for a convicted burglar to get arrested and be sent back to jail.

Brent Ashley Houston, 43, who gave a Sardis, Miss., address, asked a Conyers Police officer to give him a break when he was caught allegedly trying to steal coins from a vacuum machine at the Shell station at 1202 West Ave.

The officer reported that he was patrolling in the Dogwood Drive/West Avenue area at about 3:50 a.m. Thursday when he spotted Houston with his arm inside the vacuum machine, apparently trying to reach the coin box. When the officer approached, Houston reportedly told the officer he had just gotten out of prison the day before and asked if the officer could "cut him a break."

Houston was arrested on a city citation for loitering and prowling and taken to the Rockdale County Jail.

State Department of Corrections records showed that Houston was released from the Dooly State Prison in Unadilla on May 22 where he was serving a sentence for a Rockdale County burglary conviction. Houston has also served time for burglary convictions in Newton, Morgan and Walton counties, as well as convictions for DUI, motor vehicle violations, drug possession and sex offenses dating back to 1999.

Guess the prison "rehab program" is broken and the dude probably got "early release". Oh well, he'll have 3 hots & a cot and "free medical care".
