CONYERS -- The Newton County School System will hold its annual graduation ceremonies this weekend.
Newton High School's commencement exercises are scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. today at Springfield Baptist Church in Conyers. On Saturday, Eastside High Schools' graduation will begin at 9 a.m., while Alcovy High School's ceremonies are set to start at 3 p.m.
The ceremonies were moved to Springfield this year, after being held at Homer Sharp Stadium last year; for a few years prior, they were held at the same church location, which used to be Church in the Now.
Graduates are expected to arrive earlier and report to a designated area of the church before the ceremonies begin, as directed by the school earlier this year.
Students were given a certain number of tickets to give to guests as entry into the ceremonies.
Retiring NCSS Superintendent Gary Mathews is expected to speak at each graduation, and members of the Newton County Board of Education also are expected to be present at the ceremonies.
