OXFORD -- Oxford College will have something for everybody as the athletic department will hold various youth camps starting June 3.
Head athletic trainer Amanda Fischer will begin with the first of three swim camps. The first swim camp starts on June 3 and will last until the June 6. The second will go from June 10 to 13 with the final going from June 17 to 20.
The camps, for children ages 4-13, begin at 1 p.m. and will last until 3 p.m. The cost is $125 per camper and $100 for each additional camper in the same family ($100 for Oxford College staff/faculty).
Oxford's basketball camp, June 17 to 20, will be conducted by Oxford head coach Rod Stubbs, who had Oxford's best season with a 23-8 record. The day for the camp begins at 9 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. for players between the ages of 6 and 15. The cost per camper is $150 ($100 for Oxford College staff/faculty).
The all-sport three day camp begins on June 24 and will end June 27 for campers 6 to 15 years of age. The cost is $125 per camper, $100 for each additional camper in the same family ($100 for Oxford College staff/faculty).
The all-sport camp begins promptly at 9 a.m. In the morning, campers rotate through 45 minute instructional activity areas each day. Campers break for lunch at noon and must bring a sack lunch from home and will be supervised as they eat lunch in an air-conditioned room.
At approximately 1 p.m., the campers will continue a wide variety of age-appropriate activities that are different from the morning offerings, rotating through two more 45 minute instructional activity areas. All campers will participate in one big group activity starting at 2:30 p.m. before being picked up between 3 and 3:15 p.m.
Daily activities include tennis, basketball, soccer, swimming, kickball and indoor soccer.
The purpose of the camp coaches and staff is to help each camper improve their athletic skills and have fun.
The staff will also consist of Gregory Moss-Brown (Oxford College head women's soccer) and Kevin Hudanish (Oxford College strength and conditioning coach).
The Oxford College basketball trainer and her staff will be present during the camp for assistance. The site is also within minutes of the Newton Medical Center.
