Car show to coincide with county employee event Sunday

COVINGTON - A car show on the Square will coincide with a county employee recognition ceremony this Sunday.

The events are hosted by Commissioner Lanier Sims and the general public is invited to attend.

The car show will feature about 150 vehicles from all over the state and will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. County employees who have worked with the county for 15 years or more will be recognized and receive small gifts at 2 p.m. Employees will also get to vote on their pick of the car show.

"As a commissioner and as a citizen my whole life, I want to show my appreciation to the dedicated employees of the county," Sims said.

Local companies are donating funds to help with awards and gifts. Donations are still being accepted. Those interested can contact Sims at covingtoncarshow@gmail.com or 678-609-3356.

"I thought this would be a great opportunity to show the county employees how much I appreciate them. We have a good amount, actually 89 employes, that have been with the county 15-plus years," he said.

There will also be music and downtown restaurants and some merchants will be open. Sims described it as "just a day of thanks and a day of fun for county employees."
