GSP: Two killed in racing accident on I-20

From Staff Reports

CONYERS — Two people were killed early Friday morning in an apparent racing accident that occurred on Interstate 20 westbound near the Salem Road exit.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, two people were killed and three injured when 22-year-old Kyrie Alassen Anderson of Madison, driving a Honda Accord and apparently racing with another vehicle, lost control and struck the guardrail. The Honda traveled across the westbound lanes and was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The crash occurred near the Newton/Rockdale county lines.

Two passengers in the Honda — Edi Rodriquez, 19, of Covington, and an infant — were killed, according to the GSP. The identity of the infant was not released as family has not been notified, GSP spokesman Gordy Wright said Friday afternoon.

Anderson and the driver and passenger in the pickup were all injured.

No further details were available at presstime and Wright said an investigation into the crash is continuing. He said the driver of the other car believed to be involved in the racing with the Honda has been identified and will be interviewed during the follow-up investigation.

Also, a secondary accident occurred behind the racing wreck when one vehicle slowed for the first crash and was struck in the rear by another vehicle.
