Hunter, Franklin win state track and field titles

JEFFERSON -- A pair of local athletes won titles in this weekend's track and field state meet at Memorial Stadium in Jefferson.

Heritage sprinter Myles Hunter won the Class AAAAA state championship in the 110-meter hurdles, running in 14.71, while Newton's Malik Franklin was the Class AAAAA winner in the triple jump (47-01.50). Franklin was also sixth in the long jump (21-08.25).

Elsewhere in Class AAAAAA, Alcovy's Khorvon Nelson was fourth in the 400 meters at 49.49, while Robert McCray of Rockdale was sixth in the shot put (50-00.75).

In Class AAAAA, Heritage's Dayo Akendeli placed fourth in the long jump at 21-03.00.

In Class AAAA, Eastside's Derrick Jackson finished sixth in the high jump (6-02).
