COVINGTON -- The Newton Citizen will move from its office on Turner Lake Road effective Friday, April 12.
The Newton Citizen's lease in Covington expires at the end of April. In the short term, editorial and advertising staffs of the Newton Citizen will consolidate operations with the Rockdale Citizen, its sister paper, in Conyers while company officials look for other suitable office space in Covington.
"While we are looking for less expensive quarters in Covington, the Newton Citizen will continue to publish as it does now," said J.K. Murphy, vice president for content for Southern Community Newspapers Inc., the Citizens' parent company. "No staff or product changes are being made. Our customers will see no difference in the quality they have come to expect from our service and our product. The change in location reflects our efforts to become more efficient and operate more smoothly."
Newton Citizen staff members will work from the Rockdale office, located at 969 S. Main St., Conyers 30012, beginning Monday, April 15. The main number is 770-483-7108. Individual editorial staff members can be reached at the following extensions: News editor Barbara Knowles, ext. 249; sports writer Manny Fils, ext. 238; staff reporter Crystal Tatum, ext. 248; staff reporter Michelle Floyd, ext. 245. Email addresses for Newton staff members will remain unchanged.
The Newton Citizen has published five days a week in Newton County since April 2004. The Newton Citizen was published as a zoned edition of the Rockdale Citizen for several years before it was launched as a stand-alone publication.
