East Newton celebrates China

East Newton Elementary School recently celebrated another country with a Taste of China, which included food and events based on Chinese culture. Pictured is fourth-grader Cyler Wilcox trying some food. All 600 students of East Newton Elementary were given a taste of all of the dishes that included steamed rice, cabbage, lo mein, bean curd tofu, sesame ball, jasmine and green tea. Authentic Chinese dishes were donated by local restaurants, Royal Palace Buffet, New China and Mandarin Palace.

In addition to learning about the culture through food, the students were entertained by Chinese acrobats and learned about the origin of fireworks, the land that makes the country of China, the Chinese flag, the Great Wall of China and the Great Panda. Three students from Oxford College that are from China also came to share their culture with the students. Parents of East Newton students from China also shared information with students.
