COVINGTON -- Newton County students and staff will get a break from school next week.
The Newton County School System will be closed to students and staff from April 1 through 5 for spring break.
The Newton County Board of Education building, which is located at 2109 Newton Drive NE in Covington, also will be closed during this time.
Additionally, all Newton County schools will release students early Friday for teacher professional learning activities.
Elementary students and Newton County Theme School at Ficquett students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m., high school students will be released at 12:15 p.m., and middle school students are scheduled to depart at 1:15 p.m. Lunch will be served before students are dismissed, and all students who ride school buses home in the afternoons will be transported to their normal bus stops.
Schools will reopen on April 8 to continue the rest of the school year.
The Newton County Board of Education is scheduled to meet again April 9 for a work session and April 16 for its regular session monthly meetings. Meetings are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the board room at the BOE building on Newton Drive.
Spring break is the last break of the school year. The last day of school for students is May 24.
