Rockdale tennis finishes perfect in region play

The Rockdale tennis teams completed a perfect run through Region 2-AAAAAA Tuesday. The Bulldogs won 5-0 against Lovejoy in girls and boys play, locking up the top seeds when the region tournaments begin next month.

The boy’s finished a perfect region season — winning 5-0 in all six matches — and didn’t lose a game Tuesday. Patrick Sanders (No. 1 singles), Trey Hull (No. 2), Logan Hull (No. 3) and the No. 1 doubles team of Abenet Addisu and Bruce Mitchell and the No. 2 doubles team of Collin Shamley and Cameron Debro each won 8-0.

In girls play, Destiny Commodore won 8-2 at No. 1 singles, Ciara Chesser won 8-1 at No. 2 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Abby Bradford and Sydney Norton and the No. 2 doubles team of Kyia Havens and Abby Miller picked up victories of 8-1 and 8-0, respectively. At No. 3 singles, Aliyah Byrd won by forfeit.

With the No. 1 seeds secured, Rockdale clinched a quarterfinal bye and automatic berth in the region semifinals, as well as a state berth for the third consecutive season.

The Bulldogs play a non-region match against Lakeside-DeKalb tonight.
