Dudley and Bo are hoping to find a spot in someone's heart

Bo may be a bit on the thin side now, but with a few good meals and a lot of love, he'll be looking fat and sassy in no time. A black Lab-mix with a beautiful bluish tinge to his coloring, he'll make a stunning dog and a great family pet. He's estimated to be between 1 and 2 years old and should weigh around 60 pounds. He's had his shots and been wormed and would love to find a new home. He can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 770-278-8403.

This sweet little guy has been named Dudley Do Right and he's hoping somebody will "do right" by him and give him a new home. A long-haired Dachshund, he was found in the roadway mournfully sitting beside another Dachshund who had been killed by a car. He's fully grown, probably between 1 and 2-years-old and has had his shots and been wormed. He's set to find a new life and a new lap to sit on. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal. - Staff photos by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

-- Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

-- Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

-- Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

-- Which pet is right for my home and my family?
