COVINGTON -- Eastside's baseball team continued its dominance in Region 8-AAAA with a 4-1 win over Monroe Area on Friday.
Eastside pitcher Peyton Pallay held the Hurricanes (3-7, 0-3) hitless through the first inning while the Eastside (11-1, 3-0) offense, tacked on a run in the bottom of the second on a Hank Steele double to bring Hunter Ballard home. Steele played a big part in the Eagles' offense, going 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
The Hurricanes tied the game in the third, scoring an unearned run. But the Eagles, who are ranked No. 8 in the GACA coaches poll, answered right back, scoring a pair of runs in their half of the inning on Daniel Garrett's second homer of the season.
Eastside added an insurance run in the fourth as Ballard singled to get on base before being plated by Steele's second double of the game. Pallay and the Eagle defense worked in concert to prevent the Hurricanes from getting another runner past first base for the remainder of the game. Pallay allowed five hits while walking two and striking out four for the complete-game win.
Eastside will again face Monroe Area on the road Monday followed by a pair of region games against Walnut Grove on Wednesday and Friday.
