There were plenty of successful area boys basketball teams in 2012-2013, and the leaders of those squads were rewarded with spots on the Citizen's All-Area team.
Eastside, a state playoff team in Class AAAA, had three players make the first team, while Salem, a Class AAAAA playoff team, had a pair of guards receive first-team honors. C.J. Wilson, who was named a region player of the year for the second consecutive season and led the Bulldogs back to the state playoffs, and fellow Region 2-AAAAAA first-teamer Rashard Cabane round out the first-team honorees.
Overall, eighteen players were named to the first, second and honorable mention teams.
C.J. Wilson, senior guard, Rockdale. The Region 2-AAAAAA player of the year averaged 16 points, five assists and four steals in helping the Bulldogs reach the state playoffs for the fourth time in Wilson's four years.
Quindarrius Russell, senior guard/forward, Eastside. Led Tigers in scoring (19.7) and rebounding (6.3).
Treyvon Francis, junior guard, Eastside. Averaged 9.4 assists and added 11.3 points and 5.7 steals per game.
Dedrick Turner, senior guard, Salem. Led Seminoles in scoring at 19 points per game and added an average of three assists.
Jamaal Garror, senior guard, Salem. Averaged 16 points, five rebounds and four assists in helping Seminoles reach state tournament for third consecutive season.
Anthony Henderson, junior guard, Eastside. Second on the team averaging 15.2 points and added three steals per contest.
Rashad Cabane, senior forward, Newton. First-team all-Region 2-AAAAAA selection averaged 12 points and 7.2 rebounds.
Darius Mitchell, senior guard/forward, Rockdale. Averaged 14 points and five rebounds for Bulldogs.
LaRonte Parks, senior guard, Rockdale. Hit 46 percent of his three-pointer attempts while averaging 14 points.
Marques McKoy, senior forward, Salem. Despite missing the last part of the season due to a knee injury, still averaged 11 points and nine rebounds.
Jalen Glover, junior guard, Newton. Second-team All-Region 2-AAAAAA selection averaged 12 points and five rebounds.
Justin Wallace, senior forward, Alcovy. Led Tigers in scoring (11 points) and added six rebounds per game.
Juwan Henderson, junior guard, Alcovy. Averaged seven assists while chipping in with nine points and three steals per contest.
Darryle Tucker, junior forward, Rockdale; Conner Ferrell, sophomore guard, Rockdale; Rashad Jones, sophomore guard, Heritage; Steven Everson, senior guard, Heritage; Taylor Hawkins, junior forward, Newton.
