COVINGTON - A one-car accident at around 7 a.m. Wednesday on Bostwick Road in North Newton County caused a power outage to residents of Bostwick Road and surrounding areas.
A Honda Civic left the road and struck a pole, breaking it and causing wires to fall and block the road. The pole and several spans of wires had to be replaced, resulting in an outage of several hours, according to Covington Utilities Director Bill Meecham.
"An estimated 30 homes were affected for the duration, although a few that were affected on Gum Creek Road were restored sooner," Meecham said. The driver was taken to the hospital via ambulance.
Meecham said Bostwick Road serves as a cut through from Ga. Hwy. 81 to Gum Creek Road. The accident occurred east of Gum Creek, in front of the small historic Gum Creek Courthouse.
