COVINGTON — It’s time to round up your kindergarteners.
The Newton County School System will hold its annual Kindergarten Round-Up registration during the week of March 18.
Children must be 5 years old by Sept. 1 to register for the 2013-14 school year. Parents should bring the prospective kindergarten student with them to the roundup so teachers can conduct screenings with the children.
At the time of registration, parents must provide their child’s social security card. If no card is available, a waiver may be signed at the time of registration.
They also must provide their child’s certified birth certificate, immunization record form No. 3231 and hearing, vision and dental screening record form No. 3300. If needed, hearing and vision screening testing will be available at the schools at the time of registration.
In addition, parents must also provide two proofs of residence — a utility bill with their name and address and a current lease, rental agreement or mortgage statement from the purchase of a home.
Should the child not live with one or both parents, guardianship or custody documents will be required.
Each of the school system’s elementary schools have designated one day during the week for kindergarten registration:
• March 18 for Middle Ridge, Flint Hill and Porterdale
• March 19 for East Newton, Rocky Plains and Oak Hill
• March 20 for Live Oak, Mansfield, South Salem and Fairview
• March 21 for Heard-Mixon, Livingston and West Newton
Hours of registration are 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Registration for the Newton County Theme School at Ficquett was held in February.
Parents who are unable to register on the designated day at their home school may register at one of the other elementary schools per the schedule above.
Parents of current NCSS pre-K students do not have to register them for kindergarten. Their records will move with them to kindergarten.
