Rockdale Medical Center recently began providing a transradial catheterization procedure, a diagnostic procedure for people with heart disease. Transradial artery catheterization is done through the wrist instead of the femoral artery in the groin, reducing the risk of bleeding complications, shortening the length of stay from 4 to 6 hours to 2.5 hours, and requiring less use of sedatives and pain medications. Performing the procedure on a patient at Rockdale Medical Center is Dr. Enrique Flores, an interventional cardiologist with Georgia Heart Specialists and chief of the Rockdale Medical Center Catheterization Lab, assisted by Sandra Mayben, lead technician for the RMC Interventional Radiology and the Catheterization Lab.
