Newton County high school students who attend Newton College and Career Academy recently won the state FFA Horse Judging Career Development Event at Fort Valley University. Team members, from left, Brandon Johnson, Amirah Ruffin, Haley Kneece and Jerquis Miller will compete for national honors at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., in October. The team is coached by Kelly Smith, Agriculture Teacher and FFA Advisor at Newton College and Career Academy. Participants in the event judge classes of horses, give oral reasons for class placings and take a written examination.
